Questions about re-registering to study

What do I have to take into consideration when continuing my studies (re-registration)?

All information on how you can re-register.

If I am a current student, when do I have to pay tuition?

In order to be able to continue your studies at the University of Konstanz, you must pay all relevant fees and contributions before the re-registration deadline. 

Re-registration periods
Winter semester: from 15 Juli until 15 August
Summer semester: from 15 January until 15 February.

These deadlines might change slightly due to weekends and holidays.

If you do not pay the fees and contributions on time, then you will be billed an additional administrative fee of 15 euros (§ 4 Verwaltungsgebührensatzung der Universität Konstanz (University of Konstanz Administrative Fees Regulation)). 

What is the payment reference for current students?

The payment reference is comprised of a 12-digit number.

It includes:

126 + student ID number (without „01/“ or letters) + semester abbreviation (e.g. 181 for the Summer Semester 2018)

What is the semester abbreviation?

The first two numbers represent the year in which the semester begins for which you are registering (18 for 2018). The third number is either a 1 for the summer semester, or 2 for the winter semester.

Important:

Please use a payment reference number without spaces or additional characters before or within the 12-digit number. This is necessary to ensure that your payment is processed without delay. If you do not pay the fees and contributions in time, then you will be billed an additional administrative fee of 15 euros (§ 4 Administrative Fees Regulation of University of Konstanz).

The University Cashier's Office does not accept any cash payments.

As a current student, what happens to me if I do not pay?

If you do not pay tuition, then you will receive a billable reminder with a an additional administrative fee. If you do not pay the re-registration fee within a few days (§ 62 para. 2 no. 4 Landeshochschulgesetz) then you will be exmatriculated.

These provisions are binding for all universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

What do I need to take into consideration when I exmatriculate?

What is the minimum amount of time that I need to be enrolled?

All students are required to be enrolled until they complete their last examination requirements, including any necessary repeat examinations (§ 1 para. 2 University of Konstanz admission and enrolment requirements - ZImmO). Special regulations for law students or students in the teacher education programme.

Only after the enrolment requirements have been fulfilled are you allowed to apply to be exmatriculated. You will otherwise not be able to graduate.

Information regarding the minimum period of enrolment for law students:

If you study Law, you must only be enrolled until you receive written confirmation for being able to take the first state examination in law (§§ 9, 10 para. 2, 11 para. 1 Juristenausbildungs- und Prüfungsordnung - JAPrO).

If you are interested in re-registering after passing your first examination in law in order to improve your grade, then please submit an informal request in writing to the Student-Service-Centre.

If you are taking the university examination in your area of specialisation, you must be enrolled until you have completed your last examination requirements including any necessary repeat examinations (§ 13 para. 5 Satzung über die Universitätsprüfung in einem Schwerpunktbereich des Staatsexamensstudiengangs Rechtswissenschaft).

Information regarding the enrolment requirements for teaching programme students:

If you are studying to become a teacher, then you only have to remain enrolled until you receive the written confirmation for being able to take all parts of the state examination for “Gymnasium” teachers (secondary education) (§ 10 Wissenschaftliche Prüfungsordnung - WPO 2001 and § 14 Gymnasiallehrerprüfungsordnung I - GymPO I 2009.

Exceptions: If you need to complete additional academic performance assessments despite having already received your confirmation for being able to take the final examination, then you are required to re-register in order to complete them.

If you are interested in re-registering after passing your first examination in law in order to improve your grade, then please submit an informal request in writing to the Student-Service-Centre.

Important: We recommend that teaching programme students who pass their first state examination apply for exmatriculation with immediate effect before beginning their teacher traineeship. As a general rule, this is the day before the first school day in January.

If you choose not to exmatriculate, then your teacher traineeship as an "enrolled student” will be considered secondary employment subject to official authorisation (§ 62 para. 1 Landesbeamtengesetz - state civil service act).

How long do I have a right to claim a refund if I am exmatriculated after the semester begins?

If you exmatriculate with immediate effect within a month after the beginning of the lecture period, then you can request a refund of all administrative, Seezeit student services and student body fees. The same applies for the tuition fees for international students and for second degree studies.

How do I exmatriculate myself from one subject or from one of several study programmes?

Where do I return my Seezeit cafeteria card or Canon copy card?

Option 1: Seezeit cafeteria card without Canon copy card credit
Return your card at any of the cash counters in the cafeteria (level 6). If your card still functions, then Seezeit will reimburse any remaining credit and your deposit amount.

Option 2: Seezeit cafeteria card with Canon copy card credit
1. You can have your remaining Canon copy card credit paid out to you only in the Canon Service Center!
2. Return your card at any of the cash counters. If your card still functions, then Seezeit will reimburse any remaining credit and your deposit amount.

Option 3: Canon copy card
Your Canon copy card can only be returned to the Canon Service Center . There you will be paid any remaining credit.
