Mathematics encompasses the study of abstract structures and their inherent relations. It is divided into the two major areas of pure mathematics and applied mathematics. Pure mathematics includes algebra, analysis, geometry, topology and number theory, while applied mathematics includes numerics, optimisation and stochastics.
During your studies you will not only use typical mathematical methods and acquire expert knowledge, you will also develop skills required in many professional areas: analytical thinking, tackling complex problems creatively and systematically, as well as working accurately. Mathematics is one of the central scientific disciplines and is the basis for numerous research areas and fields of application.
