Interdisciplinary and Multidimensional Approach

"One turns, the other presses" - Organistrum. Santiago de Compostela, 12th century

Our team is lined up interdisciplinarily; among those disciplines are egyptology, literary-, political-, historical- and cultural sciences as well as the didactics of social sciences. As researchers in the cultural sciences (in the broadest sense) we are used to the manifestations of cultural change. This motivates us to think innovatively and to promote the exchange of diverse perspectives. We do that by specifically bringing together theorists with practical people and in turn both of them with representatives of further specializations. That way, we build novel networks and a common knowledge archive in our research project in order to further develop existing approaches and to test out new ones. In examining the outlined challenges we try to develop concepts, solution strategies and models of acting, in order to contribute actively towards modeling the current social and cultural change.

The project formulates an innovative research design, merging the expertise of especially three departments which hardly have worked together before: memory studies, urban research and educational research. The main goal ist to establish a platform at the University of Konstanz to exchange the conditions of a cultural change towards more communal sense and sustainability between academic research and society. Regarding the transfer and exchange, future teachers currently in training for their special branches of science as well as educational sciences at the University of Konstanz play an important role, as well as the Binational School of Education, which oversees the three phases of teacher training (study, internship, job) and is caring for a network of more than 20 partnering schools.
