New report on study conditions at the University of Konstanz published

Cross-survey report focuses on various aspects in the field of study conditions and their influence on study progress and study success.

The report "Study conditions as a factor influencing the course of studies and academic success" presents the results of the student survey Sag’s uns! 2022 and the exmatriculation survey 2019 - 2021. The report answers the following questions: How good are the study conditions at the University of Konstanz? How do study conditions affect international mobility and the acquisition of skills by students? How important are study conditions for the decision to end your studies early or for the transition to a master’s or doctorate?

Important results:

- Student satisfaction with study conditions is back to pre-pandemic levels. 76% of the students are (very) satisfied with this.

- Study time extensions result less frequently due to deficiencies in the study conditions. Comparatively often, students reported delays in the course of writing their thesis or preparing for exams (28%).

- In order to increase mobility abroad, curricula would have to be redesigned in such a way that a stay abroad does not lead to a delay in the progress of studies.

- Good study conditions promote the acquisition of skills by the students. The decisive factors here are the quality of teaching and a high degree of research and practical relevance.

- The support offers that have been set up (e.g. introductory events at the start of studies, bridging courses, writing advice, etc.) help graduates to complete their studies more often within the standard period of study. For the group of university changers and dropouts, it is evident that the decision to give up studying at the University of Konstanz tends to be delayed.

- With a focus on the study conditions, (too) high study requirements remain by far the most important reason for dropping out (40%) and changing universities (32%). On the positive side, since 2016 most of the reasons for dropping out and changing courses in connection with study conditions have lost relevance.

- Good study conditions can help to keep students for further studies or a doctorate at the University of Konstanz. The decisive factors here are the special efforts made in the area of student support by lecturers and a high degree of research relevance in teaching.
