2014/2015: Evaluation of the Language Institute (SLI)

Contents and Objectives

The recommendation report of the HRK Audit, “Internationalisation of Universities”, recommended an internal evaluation of the SLI in 2011. The Quality Management Unit carried out its evaluation in the winter semester 2014/2015 and the summer semester 2015. This was a formative evaluation which means that the assessment and improvement of current processes and situations was given particular attention. The following topics were given priority status:

  • Structure, leadership, and organisation of the SLI
  • Relationships with external partners and the interface to other university units
  • Functions and performance range of the SLI
  • Student and department satisfaction

Procedure

  1. Conduct student survey “Sag’s uns!” (We want your opinion!) to evaluate the levels of satisfactions regarding learning foreign languages at the SLI
  2. Analysis of the student course evaluations
  3. Analysis of the documents regarding the administration and user regulations for the SLI, as well as other documents
  4. Comparison with goals as well as administrative and organisational structures of other language institutes or centres
  5. Individual interviews with experts
  6. Survey of employees and teachers
  7. Focus group discussions (a specific form of survey in a group interview) with students

Results of the Evaluation

The results were presented to the Rectorate in June 2015, and the evaluation is currently in the follow-up-phase.
