Certificate of conduct required for new employees

Before they can be hired, all new employees under collective agreement (tariflich Beschäftigte) are required to provide a certificate of conduct (Führungszeugnis) that is not more than three months old (as per § 30 para. 5 of the BZRG (Federal Central Criminal Register Act)). New academic staff are required to submit an extended certificate of conduct (erweitertes Führungszeugnis) (as per § 30a BZRG). The certificate of conduct can be requested from your local registry office (Meldebehörde) or from the Federal Office of Justice (if you live outside Germany). It usually takes two to four weeks to issue the document. You are responsible for paying the respective fee (currently about € 13).

The Human Resources team will send you a letter specifying the type of certificate of conduct that is required and that you can present to the authority issuing the respective certificate of conduct.
