Arrival and your first day in Konstanz

Now the time for your stay in Konstanz has finally arrived! This page includes important suggestions for your first days in your new study location.

Important information for your arrival in Konstanz

Before arrival: Please arrange a meeting with the International Office

As soon as you know when you will be travelling to Konstanz, you are welcome to arrange a meeting with us in the Internatonal Office. At our first meeting, we will discuss

  • how you can get your student ID card
  • which formalities you should arrange for step-by-step
  • which questions you still have unanswered

Information from Seezeit

If you have requested a room in a residence hall, then Seezeit will have sent you confirmation of your reservation via email.
This message also includes all the important information about:

  • your residence hall and room (address and number)
  • your monthly rental costs (including internet access, heating, electricity and garbage services)
  • When you move in:
    You can pick up your key from the building manager on weekdays only (Monday-Friday). You may not move in on a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) or on a holiday. Unfortunately, you are also not allowed to move in before the date your rental contract begins. Be sure to make an appointment to pick up your room key from “Mieterservice” (tenant services) via email.
  • office hours and contact information for the building managers
  • how to pay your monthly rent
  • which furniture is in your room
  • how to contact Seezeit
  • how to access the internet in your residence hall.  WLAN/WiFi access is available via eduroam. For eduroam, you need your personalized uni konstanz email account.

Important:
Make sure you contact Mieterservice early to set a move-in date!
Please also remember to bring your own pillow, blanket and sheets for your room in the Seezeit residence halls. You may also purchase them for 45 euro from the building manager. These 45 Euro will automatically be deducted from your deposit at the end of your stay.
In this case, please be sure to also request bedding and sheets from the Mieterservice when you set a move-in date.

Formalities after arrival - without orientation programme

If you haven't joined any orientation programme or if you are arriving after the orientations, please follow-up with the following formalities after arrival:

Compulsary:

1. Registration with place of residence within 14 days after moving in.

2. students with non-EU citizenship: after registration with the city (see 1.), apply for a residence permit with the immigration office of your place of residence
in Konstanz: Ausländerbehörde City of Konstanz (Online-registration: "Aufenthaltserlaubnis beantragen)"

Optional or if not done yet: 

  1. open a German bank account
  2. get a German SIM card for your smart phone (might be necessary for opening a bank account)
  3. get a German health insurance OR activate your health insurance by submitting your German adress and bank account details to your health insurance provider
  4. enroll with the university (please see your admission letter for contact for inquires)

You are welcome to arrange a personal appointment with us at the International Office. We will be happy to guide you through the formalities after arrival.

Businesses in Germany are closed on Sundays and holidays (e.g. 3 October, German Unification).
