We are happy that you have decided to study at the University of Konstanz. Your next step is to complete the application. To study as an exchange student at the University of Konstanz, you must first apply through the international office of your home university. Please note the respective application deadlines.

Once you have been nominated, you will receive an email with the more application information and a link to the online registration. In addition to entering your information, you will need to submit additional documents to us by uploading them into the system. Please complete the online registration and upload all requested documents by

  • 15 May for the winter semester (October-February)
  • 15 November for the summer semester (April-July)

Your application is also necessary for receiving student accommodation and registering for our language and orientation programmes that take place before the beginning of the semester. Once we have completed your application and uploaded all requested documents, we will begin processing it. Letters of admission will usually be mailed in June/July (for the winter semester) and in January/February (for the summer semester).

Language requirements and tests

Exchange students for the summter semester 2018 must demonstrate a proficiency in English OR in German, minimum level B1 according to the European reference framework. Starting with the academic year 2018/19 the minimum level B2 is required. Accepted language tests are

- official confirmation of language instructor at the home university on university letterhead with original signature and stamp/seal
- Official certificate German B1/B2 (Goethe-Institut)
- TELC-Certificate with minimum level B1/B2
- Preliminary English Test (PET, Cambridge)
- IELTS with a minimum score of 4,5/5,5
- TOEFL (IBT): minimum score of 57/72
- TOEFL (ITP): minimum score of 460/543
- TOEIC: minimum score of 550/785 in listening and reading

Students who speak German or English as mother tongue or study completly in English in their home country (not only in isolated courses) do not have to submit a language test.

Guaranteed student accommodation and payment of deposit

We offer guaranteed student accommodation to all of our exchange students from our partner universities. A room is guaranteed if you sign up by the application deadline. If you are applying for a dorm room, remember to pay the 550€ deposit to Seezeit. Your housing application can only be considered when you fulfil these requirements.

Payment of the GO-Konstanz fee

Once you have registered for GO-Konstanz, our intensive language course with orientation programme, you will receive registration confirmation and payment information together with the letter of admission. We ask that you confirm your mandatory reservation by transferring the reservation fee and any potential transaction charges until 15 January / 15 July to the University of Konstanz account.

New exchange students can transfer the fees together with the students services fee and the student body fee (total of 90 Euro).

For your convenience, we have also collected some English instructed courses within the different departments in the guide. Please know that until the beginning of the semester, courses can still be changed and more courses be added. Some departments also offer special courses just for international students.
Courses for the winter semester are expected to be online and complete by the end of August and courses for the summer semester by the end of February.
