The "European Reform University Alliance" (ERUA) is an alliance of eight European reform universities that want to jointly pursue new paths in research, teaching and institutional development.

ERUA is part of the European Universities Initiative (EUI) of the European Commission, which, as one of the key initiatives of the European Union (EU), aims to advance the development of a European Education Area and the implementation of the European Higher Education Strategy.

Between 1st November 2020 and 31st October 2023, the University of Konstanz was a full member of ERUA and has additionally been supported on its path to becoming a European University by the DAAD's national support programme "European University Networks". Since 1st November 2023, the University of Konstanz has been associated partner of the alliance.

Mission and vision: The focus of ERUA is on teaching. A joint, cross-alliance course offering brings ERUA students together and is constantly being expanded and developed. In addition, joint innovative teaching and learning formats such as Travelling Seminars, Teaching Exchanges and ERUA Summer and Winter Schools are created. These open up flexible exchange formats for ERUA students and teachers and promote European teaching and learning experiences.

The ERUA Research group deals with questions of science theory on the significance of reform universities and develops concepts for the further development of the university alliance in direct exchange.

The promotion of Alliance-wide research infrastructures is the task of Re:ERUA, which has been coordinated by the Constance Open Science Team (KIM) since 2021 and is financed by EU funding from the H2020 SwafS Call.

ERUA makes decisions in a participatory way; all stakeholders can exchange ideas in the joint forums and working groups.
