The Teaching  Assistantship Programme for International Doctoral Candidates and Young Researchers (Postdocs) is part of the STIBET programme funded by the DAAD (“Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst”).

Application deadline is 30 June 2019 for assistantships in the winter term 2019/20.

Objectives of the Programme

  • Integration of doctoral candidates and postdocs in teaching
  • Expanding teaching experiences of international doctoral candidates and postdocs
  • Extending course offer in English

Within the framework of the programme, international doctoral candidates and international young researchers (postdocs) are provided the opportunity to gain more experience in  teaching in association with their supervisors and their departments.

Target group

International doctoral students and international postdocs at the University of Konstanz.

Scope

Up to 29 hours per month within the framework of an assistant position ("wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft") from October to February (5 months), depending on the individual circumstances  about 450 Euros per month.

If the candidate holds an academic position,  an increase of working hours equivalent to the budget of a teaching assistantship might be considered in individiual cases, provided the supervisor agrees.

International doctoral candidates and postdocs become actively involved in teaching by developing their own teaching project and conducting a course of minimum 28 teaching units ( 1 unit = 45 minutes) per semester. The minimum number of participants is 5 students and the teaching language is English. The course can be a weekly course or a block seminar.  Assessments will be graded.

The course content should focus on subjects which will draw the interest of a wider student audience, preferably at undergraduate level,  including students of adjoining disciplines and exchange students. Of course, the subject of the class may also reflect their own research projects /fields.

The course offer is attributed with ECTS credits and included in the course catalogue ZEUS by the department.
