The workshop will focus on a range of questions in Bayesian epistemology and philosophy of science. Amongst the topics covered are scientific realism, the nature of evidence, scientific reasoning, alternative interpretations of probability, the psychological origin of degrees of confidence, Bayesian versus Fisher-style statistics, confirmation, induction, causation, foundationalism and the coherence theory of justification. We will devote the Wednesday afternoon session to share some memories of Richard Jeffrey. Our speakers will present papers that are related to Jeffrey's work.

The workshop is supported by the Austrian Ludwig Wittgenstein Society, a Sofja Kovalevskaja Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and the Programme for Investment in the Future (ZIP) of the German Government.

The workshop is being organized by Luc Bovens (University of Colorado at Boulder) and Stephan Hartmann (University of Konstanz).
