abstract

Computing technology has brought change in the amount of information we capture and store and it has itself begun to change in terms of its form and place in the world. We want to make use of information whenever and wherever it is most convenient and, thus, a variety of new application possibilities exist for information visualization research. It is important to explore how to build tools for such non-standard analysis environments to help new generations of visualization users to access, understand, and explore their personal or work-related information. In this talk, I will discuss some of my past research on information visualization in non-desktop contexts. I will talk about projects related to multi-touch and direct-touch interaction for data analysis and about socio-technical challenges of moving information visualization off the desktop.
