The information age is producing vast data sets, such as records of business transactions, environmental statistics and census demographics. The discovery of interesting patterns in such databases through visual analytics is one key to turn this data into valuable information. The talk introduces the concept of relevance driven Visual Analytics and provides applications that show how this paradigm can by applied to analyse large data sets. The basic idea is to include semantics into the visualization process, reducing the amount of data in an appropriate way, and in doing so, displaying not all but only the relevant information according to a given context. Based on the concepts of relevance driven Visual Analytics a visualization process model for visualizing large and complex data sets is provided and evaluated.
