abstract
Information Visualization: Lessons learnedInformation visualization concerns the use of interactive computer graphics to obtain insight in large amounts of abstract data. Typical examples of the latter are multivariate data (tables), hierarchical data, and networks, and in practice often combinations are encountered. As this kind of data is very generic, information visualization can be used for many applications, including societal, business, technical, and scientific applications. The visualization group of the Eindhoven University of Technology has been active in this area since 1998. In the talk an overview is given of the field, using cases and demos from the visualization group at TU/e as examples, with a focus on lessons learned. Maybe the most important one is that inspiration for effective solutions can come from many directions.
