Computational topology

speaker Prof. Dr. John Hart, University of Illinois, Urbana, Ill., USA

1. Computational topology of implicit surfaces

date September 27, 2006

abstract The lecture introduces Morse theory, shows how it can be used to detect topology changes in implicit surfaces and how to update e.g. a polygonization, and concludes with some more recent work on the topology of silhouettes.

2. Computational topology of meshes

date September 29, 2006

abstract The lecture describes Banchoff's extension of Morse theory onto triangulated manifolds and strategies for discretizing surface flows on a mesh, with applications including Morse Fairing and Spectral Surface Quadrangulation and if there's time other non-Morse methods for mesh topology interrogation and processing.
