1986 - 1991

Study of organic chemistry and Diplomy thesis at the Higher Institute for Chemical Technology, Sofia, Bulgaria.
Synthesis and analysis of medicines.
Diploma thesis: "Synthesis and Characterisation of Sweet Peptides Consisting Cycloalkane Rings".

 

1991 - 1994

Scientific co-worker at Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research Institute, Sofia, Bulgaria. Subject: "Isolation and Analysis of Lovastatine".
Technology development: isolation and analysis of Lovastatine. The technology was implemented in practice at Antibiotics- Razgrad Ltd, Bulgaria.

 

1994 - 1999

PhD studies at the Zurich University, Switzerland.
PhD thesis:
"On-line HPLC-MS Techniques for Structural Analysis of Complex Natural Extracts".
HPLC-MS and HPLC-MS/MS analysis, separation and structure elucidation of complex alkaloid extracts (HPLC, GC/MS, NMR, CD, IR).

 

1998 - 1999

Cantonal assistant for mass spectrometry at the Zürich University, Switzerland. Responsible for mass spectrometry service (internal and external contractors) at the institute with API methods.
LC-MS and LC-MS/MS (ESI and APCI) method development and analysis. Maintenance of mass spectrometers and HPLC.

 

1999 - 2000

Postdocoral fellowship. Work on the Deutsche Forschungs Gesellschaft (German Research Foundation) project at the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
Method development for isolation and mass spectrometric analysis of lipid peroxydation products in blood and cancer tissues. Used techniques: mass spectrometry (ESI, EI), HPLC, LC-MS, GC, and GC/MS. Supervision of technicians.

 

2001 to date

Head of Mass Spectrometry Laboratory for High-Resolution Biopolymer Mass Spectrometry at the University of Konstanz, Germany.
Laboratory work organisation, supervision of PhD students and technicians. Method development for protein and small molecules analysis using high resolution FT-ICR mass spectrometry and conventional MS: ESI, IR- and UV-MALDI, LC, LC-MS/MS. Chip-MS-Proteomics. Responsible for MS service for internal and external contractors.
