Our research group has scientific interest in three projects which are supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. They all are linked to the chemistry and biology of molecular oxygen especially those reactions that lead to changes in the redox behavior of the cell ("oxidative stress and redoxregulation") or to oxygen-dependent signaling pathways (lipoxygenases, cyclooxygenases, prostaglandins, nitric oxide). We are preferentially interested in oxygen-dependent reactions with an impact on biomedicine, e.g. events that are linked to pathophysiology and illness, the immune system or host defence and the regulation of cell metabolism when oxygen supply to the tissues becomes limiting (hypoxia, ischemia).
