Research Interests

The mysid Limnomysis benedeni
  • Autecology
In laboratory studies, we tested the prefered habitats of L. benedeni. Additionally, the food selection and the ability of different food sources were examined.
  • Population dynamics
In the field, the life cycle of Limnomysis benedeni is described by a monthly sampling. In the laboratory, different population properties (e.g. development time, growth rates) and their correlation with the temperature were mesured. There aspects are combined to estimate the changes of individually birth rates and mortality rated during the reproductive season.
  • L. benedeni as a food source
The feeding of different predators on the mysid L. benedeni is eximated in laborytory experiments. Possible predators were amphipods and fishes. We are also interested in the influence of the habitat. To examine the quality of the mysid as food source, elementary analyes and energy content were mesured and growth experiments were carried out.

The mysid Katamysis warpachowskyi

The mysid was found in Lake Constance in 2009 (Article) and under observation since then.
